How often should freelancers post on LinkedIn?

The best frequency is the one you can keep up for a year. Here’s how to choose it, organise it and protect it from busy weeks.

“How many times a week should I post?” is one of the most common questions from freelancers starting out on LinkedIn. The honest answer: consistency matters far more than volume.

Consistency before volume

Posting every day for three weeks and then disappearing for two months achieves little. Your audience needs to see you come back, on the same topics, often enough to remember you. A modest pace kept all year beats a sprint followed by silence.

Three possible paces

  • Once a week: the minimum to exist. Suitable if you’re starting out or your schedule is very full.
  • Two to three times a week: a good balance for most consultants. Enough to establish your name without sacrificing client work.
  • Every working day: useful to accelerate, but hard to sustain alone without quality dropping.

Pick the pace you’re sure you can keep during your busiest weeks, not your quietest ones.

Posting isn’t enough

Time spent commenting matters as much as time spent posting. Thoughtful comments on posts by your target clients and peers make you visible to their audience. Set aside a few minutes a day for it, ideally just before and after your own posts.

Organise your production

To keep a pace, separate the steps:

  1. Collect: write ideas down as they come, in a single document (client questions, situations from engagements, reading).
  2. Write: block a fixed slot each week to draft several posts at once.
  3. Schedule: plan your posts ahead so you don’t depend on how free you are that day.
  4. Engage: reply to comments in the first hours after posting.

Which day and time?

There’s no universal time slot. Published studies disagree, and your audience has its own habits. Test a few weekday slots for a month, then keep the ones that bring the most comments from your target.
